Macs and EMIS Web

Firstly the EMIS Clinical system is not designed to run on Apple Macs. Most of the NHS clinical software is not compatible which Apple Macintosh computers. So, using Macintosh’s for EMIS and clinical work does pose a slight “wrong tool for the job” dilemma. Having said that, you can buy and use Parallels but would need to buy a licence for Windows 10 to run under Parallels. And you will need another licence/install of office too. Might as well consider buying a dedicated computer for clinical work?

Once you’ve got Parallels running and windows installed, you can work through the steps in the EMIS Web Instructions page. However you will need to run the USB passthrough mode for the Smart Card reader when you attach it.

It should also be possible to set the VPN connection up directly on MacOS but I wouldn’t be able to tell you how.

If someone wishes to lend me their Mac, with Parallels and windows installed, I can try all the steps and post screenshots etc please let me know and I’ll give it a go. Alternatively if anyone has done this already is about to do it and can give us the step by step information to put here (ideally with some screenshots) we can do that too. Thanks. Asif
